The story centers around Zara, a stingy and troubled businesswoman who successfully runs a bank in an American small town. As she finds herself in the centre of a hostage situation on New Year’s Eve, an unexpected series of funny interactions makes her, the hostage taker, the other hostages as well as the policemen in charge – all connect and come to understand each other in new ways.

Ultimately Zara discovers the importance of compassion, human connection and second chances.
